What's changing

MTD is mandatory from April 2026.

If you're a sole trader or landlord earning over £50,000, HMRC will require quarterly digital updates via approved software. Spreadsheets and paper records on their own no longer qualify. From 2028 the threshold drops to £20,000.

But you don't need to learn accounting. You don't need an accountant on retainer. You need an app that does the boring side for you, in plain English.

How it works

Three steps. Two minutes a week. Done.

No accounting jargon. No chart of accounts. No double-entry. If you can use WhatsApp, you can use TaxBridge.

160 seconds

Connect your bank

Read-only Open Banking. We can't move money. Personal spending stays private — never sent to HMRC.

230 seconds

Review weekly

TaxBridge sorts most transactions for you. Confirm the AI's guesses on the rest — three labels: Pretty sure, Needs your answer, Not sure.

31 tap

Submit to HMRC

When your quarter ends, tap send. TaxBridge submits to HMRC's official API. You get a confirmation receipt.

However you work

Cash, paper, spreadsheets — TaxBridge works with what you've got.

Connecting your bank is the easiest path, but it's not the only one. Six ways to get your numbers in — pick any of them.

Easiest
Bank connection
Auto-sync via Open Banking.
Bank statements
Upload a CSV or PDF.
Receipt scanning
Snap with your phone camera.
Paper books
Scan a page — we read the columns.
Spreadsheets
Import Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers.
Type it in
Plain manual entry, two taps each.

Mix and match — most people connect a bank and scan the odd cash receipt. TaxBridge merges it all into one set of HMRC-ready figures.

Why not just use your bank?

Fair comparison. You decide.

There are good free MTD tools from the challenger banks, and the big accounting suites work fine. Here's where each fits — and where it doesn't.

Bank MTD tools

Monzo · Starling · Tide · ANNA · HSBC · Mettle
Free or near-free
Built into your banking app
!The catch. Often tied to specific banking ecosystems — if you switch banks, you start over.

Xero · QuickBooks · Sage

From £12–£19/mo
HMRC-recognised
Works with any bank
!The catch. Can feel overbuilt for a simple sole trader. Designed for accountants, not tradespeople.

Spreadsheets

Excel · Google Sheets · paper book
Free
Familiar
!The catch. Still need compatible MTD software to send to HMRC. Spreadsheets on their own won't qualify from April 2026.

TaxBridge

AI sorts most of it for you
Plain English — no accounting jargon
Invoices, quotes, mileage, jobs and tax savings tracking included
What's included

Not just tax — your whole business.

Most sole traders juggle four or five apps. TaxBridge replaces them with one — built for how you actually work.

MTD quarterly submissions
Five HMRC submissions a year, plus year-end. We talk to HMRC's API for you.
Invoicing
Send an invoice. Tap to share via WhatsApp, email or SMS. Paid status tracked automatically.
Quotes
Build a quote, send it, convert to an invoice with one tap when it's accepted.
Customers
Plain customer list with phone, email and WhatsApp shortcuts. No 'CRM' nonsense.
Job folders
Group invoices, quotes, receipts and mileage by job. See profit per job at a glance.
Mileage
Log a trip in two taps. We work out the HMRC-approved rate for you.
Receipt scanning
Snap a receipt. We read the merchant, date and amount and sort it.
Tax savings tracking
We tell you what to put aside each week so the year-end bill is never a shock.
Smart categorisation
Knows Screwfix is materials, Shell is fuel, Adobe is software. Trained on real UK suppliers.
Replace 3–4 apps with one.
£12.99 / month
Trained on your suppliers

It knows your suppliers. Whatever your business.

Most accounting software makes you build a chart of accounts. TaxBridge already knows the merchants UK sole traders actually pay — from Screwfix to Adobe to the Trainline — so it sorts most things on its own.
